Skin Care and Hair Removal Center Serving Canton and Ann Arbor Offers Specials
Skin Care and Hair Removal Center Serving Canton and Ann Arbor Offers Specials
Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) August 17, 2011
Ann Arbor Dermatology (http://www.annarbordermatology.com/), a practice that treats a wide range of dermatologic conditions and provides the latest cosmetic options, is offering exclusive specials on popular treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and laser hair removal for Canton, Ann Arbor, and other Michigan area women and men. Dr. Albert Cattell, a board-certified dermatologist, says the specials offer an excellent opportunity for people to discover the potential benefits of non-surgical treatments.
“I look forward to helping my current and new patients experience professional skin care in Ann Arbor,” says Dr. Cattell. “In addition to BOTOX Cosmetic treatments, we frequently have specials on other procedures.”
During a BOTOX Cosmetic treatment, Dr. Cattell injects small amounts of the product into the targeted muscles, causing their action to be relaxed. This procedure can diminish wrinkles due to facial expressions, such as worry lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes. As a result, the face looks smoother and more youthful, according to Dr. Cattell.
“In addition to BOTOX Cosmetic, I’m also delighted to provide specials for those who are interested in a permanent solution for removing unwanted hair. Our laser hair removal treatment has become increasingly popular for both women and men,” adds Dr. Cattell. “Just as BOTOX Cosmetic can achieve wonderful results for my patients who want facial rejuvenation without surgery, Ann Arbor laser hair removal procedures can help those who want to permanently remove excess hair.”
Laser hair removal works by directing intense concentrated light at an area of the skin to eliminate hair growth. This procedure can treat larger areas like the back, arms and legs, as well as more sensitive areas such as the face and bikini line. The number of treatments depends on the hair and skin type, as well as the area treated. For those frustrated with endless cycles of waxing, plucking, shaving, or other temporary hair removal treatments, laser hair removal can provide a permanent solution.
Dr. Albert C. Cattell (http://www.annarbordermatology.com/) is a board-certified dermatologist serving the Plymouth, Ann Arbor, and Metro Detroit, Michigan areas. He treats a full range of skin concerns, with special emphasis on skin cancer. Dr. Cattell graduated summa cum laude from Western Michigan University. After graduating from the University of Michigan Medical School, Dr. Cattell completed his four years of residency training at the University of Michigan. He has been in the private practice of dermatology with specialization in Mohs microscopic surgery and cutaneous cancer since 1979.

WINTER WEATHER WARNING PETS REQUIRE SPECIAL CARE IN THE COLD
WINTER WEATHER WARNING Â PETS REQUIRE SPECIAL CARE IN THE COLD
CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) December 11, 2003
As old man winter comes whirling around the bend, it is important to think about how the change in weather affects your pet. The major temperature change, snow, and ice require adjustments to pets’ daily routine and care.
ÂThere are some simple ways to keep your pet safe and happy during the winter season, says Kevin Kotzian, owner of Urban Tailblazers, a Chicago dog walking company. ÂPet owners should make minimal changes to their petÂs routine and take certain safety precautions in the winter months to ensure proper health and safety.Â
Pets can not stay outside in the cold for long periods of time the way that they can in the warmer months. This is especially true for young pets or older pets, as it is more difficult for them to regulate their body heat. Pets can get hypothermia or frostbite, just like humans, so it is important to keep your pet warm while on walks and during outdoor activities.
Many people think that their petÂs fur keeps them warm and protected in the cold, but pets need a well-groomed coat to keep properly insulated. For short-haired dogs, consider outfitting it in a sweater or coat in cold weather. For long-haired dogs, it may not require winter garments, however clipping the long hair around its paws is critical to ease snow removal.
Additionally, it is important to ensure that a petÂs area is warm indoors. PetÂs crates, beds, or sleeping areas should not be near any cold drafts, or pets should have something warm to lie on such as a blanket or pad if floors are not carpeted. Conversely, pets need to be kept away from heating vents, portable heaters, and fireplaces to avoid severe burns. Owners that crate-train their dogs should be sure that the crate is not near a heating vent as the heat can be extremely uncomfortable, and unsafe for a pet, and can cause dehydration.
ÂSeveral winter dangers are things pet owners donÂt usually think about, says Kotzian. ÂFor example, pet owners need to be careful of spilled antifreeze on driveways or parking spots. Antifreeze, a sweet tasting chemical that dogs love, could be lethal, so donÂt let your pet drink from any puddles or lick something that looks as though it were emitted from an automobile. Cats can also be attracted to the warm places such as car engines, so be careful to check beneath the car before starting the engine.Â
Another winter hazard is rock salt. Although it can be great for melting snow and ice, it can be very irritating to your dogÂs foot pads. Prevent any irritation by wiping the pads with a warm, wet towel after walks. In addition, snow and ice can also collect in your dogÂs paws, or cause cuts and cracked pads. Rubbing petroleum jelly on your dogÂs foot pads can help to soothe any tenderness or irritation.
Humans arenÂt the only ones who can over-indulge during the holiday season  even pets eat more during this time of year! According to the American Kennel Club, you should feed your dog extra calories in the winter, particularly if you pet is very active. The extra calories are necessary because it takes more energy in the winter to regulate your petÂs body temperature.

Skincare Trends for Unwanted Hair: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal and Skin Care
Skincare Trends for Unwanted Hair: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal and Skin Care
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) May 1, 2008
Most women know that removing unwanted hair can become a tedious, time-consuming affair, particularly for busy women on the go and those who travel. Skincare-News.com’s latest article, “Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal: What’s best for you?” compares two newer procedures that can make shaving and waxing obsolete: electrolysis and laser hair removal.Online at http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=567.
An electrolysis treatment will feel like a small needle prick followed by an electrical shock. The thinner the skin and the closer the follicle is to a nerve, the more pain will be experienced from the shock. Additional factors that affect the pain include the intensity used (higher intensity means greater pain) and the type of needle inserted into the follicle.
As electrolysis treats unwanted hair one hair at a time, its best for smaller areas, such as the eyebrows or stray facial hairs, such as those on the chin, cheek and neck. And most hair removal clinics that perform both electrolysis and laser hair removal agree; they recommend electrolysis over laser hair removal for the eye brow area. Also, because electrolysis targets individual hairs, the surrounding non-hairy areas aren’t exposed to the effects of the electrical current.
The duration of a session depends on the area of interest. Typically the upper lip takes 20 minutes in the first session; both eyebrows can be completed in about half an hour. Most women beginning electrolysis treatments visit their esthetician weekly; as more and more follicles become permanently destroyed and regrowth slows then stops, they may decrease treatment frequency to as little as once a month. The cost of electrolysis is usually $ 1 to $ 2 per minute with many salons offering package deals when large amounts of time are purchased in advance. It takes a year or longer for permanent hair removal
Laser hair removal uses light of a particular wavelength to destroy the follicle by both thermal and mechanical damage. The technician applies the laser using a hand piece the size of a hairbrush, so targeting of the light to any particular follicle is much less exact than electrolysis. Needles aren’t used in laser hair removal, and several follicles are treated at the same time. This means it’s less painful, but also less precise; it’s a quicker method, best for large areas of unwanted hair, like the legs.
The FDA doesn’t classify laser hair removal as a permanent hair removal method, but calls it a permanent method of “hair reduction”. After the first laser session, some hairs are permanently removed, and others may regrow, but regrowth is finer and lighter.
The ideal candidate for laser hair removal is a light-skinned person with dark, coarse hair. Laser hair removal can’t be used on tattooed and pigmented areas with unwanted hair, as the pigment will absorb the laser, causing a skin burn.
Laser hair removal on a large area such as the legs is usually done in two separate appointments over one week. The overall treatment is repeated every six to eight weeks usually a total of six times, before permanent hair reduction is achieved. A single session for both legs varies in cost from $ 500 to $ 1,500. Avoid sun exposure after each treatment to reduce pigmentation of inflamed areas and until all sessions are terminated.

Urea
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=562
Urea is the primary organic solid of urine, which aids in the synthesis of protein, as well as provides the body with beneficial nitrogen. In addition, urea has been proven to be highly antibacterial, antiviral and is also a highly effective diuretic. Urea is also antimicrobial, and is often used as a natural preservative in conjunction with chemical preservatives. Carbamide, the synthetic version of urea, is an extremely useful ingredient, often found in skincare preparations as well as many medical treatments, both over the counter as well as prescribed.
Sulfur
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=558
Known as “nature’s beauty mineral,” sulfur fights acne and other skin disorders such as dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis or flaky, reddish skin. Sulfur is also necessary for stabilizing keratin protein in hair and nails and aids in the synthesis of collagen, which prevents dryness and maintains elasticity in the skin. Overall, because of its ability to protect against harmful effects of radiation and pollution, sulfur slows down the physical signs of the aging process. Most commonly found in deep cleansing masks, sulfur is a key ingredient in shampoos, cleansing bars, topical treatments and exfoliants. Sulfur is usually combined with salicylic acid, kaolin clay and other soothing agents such as aloe for an all-around active skin care treatment.
Nanotechnology: Small Particles, Big Skin Changes
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=556
Why is nanotechnology so important to skincare? By changing the very property of skincare and, how these products are then delivered to the skin. Early anti-aging creams and lotions contained ingredients that had larger molecules, making these formulas less efficient at delivering active ingredients to the skin, especially the deeper layers. Nanotechnology is the next phase of skincare, allowing products to both penetrate deeper layers as well as serve as a protective barrier, helping the skin retain moisture, according to an article by Louise Forest.
DMAE
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=554
A precursor of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, DMAE, short for dimethylaminoethanol, is an organic compound found to improve fine lines and wrinkles, dull or sallow skin and most impressively, sagging skin. In fact, DMAE may be the only compound to improve facial sagging. DMAE can be found in face and eye creams, serums and cleansers. Most people should see an improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, along with firmer, less saggy skin. Though results won’t be as dramatic as a surgical facelift, as mentioned above, research does suggest noticeable improvements.

Skincare and Cosmetic Surgery: Men Begin to Embrace Anti-Aging Skin Care
Skincare and Cosmetic Surgery: Men Begin to Embrace Anti-Aging Skin Care
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) May 28, 2008
Women aren’t the only ones turning to cosmetic procedures for the occasional nip and tuck. In the US alone, the men’s grooming market is worth $ 3.5 billion — that’s a lot of money spent on vitamins, supplements, diets, exercise, skincare products, and of course, cosmetic surgery. Skincare-News.com’s latest article, “Manning Up to Cosmetic Surgery,” looks at the most common procedures sought out by men for their anti-aging benefits.
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=584
The nose knows
Clearly, some men just aren’t satisfied with their noses. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 85,000 nose reshaping surgeries were performed on men in 2006 and the price doesn’t come cheap. Rhinoplasty costs, on average, $ 4,000 and unfortunately, most nose jobs are not covered by health insurance. During surgery, the cartilage and bones of the nose are reshaped and nostrils widened or narrowed to achieve the desired appearance. Open rhinoplasty involves the surgeon making an incision across the skin between the nostrils, while the closed technique does not require an incision on the external tissues and heals quicker. In total, the procedure can take anywhere from one to two hours.
Recovery can take up to several weeks and is very dependent upon each individual. Because the skin of the nose will be sensitive to sunlight, wearing sunscreen is essential. Finally, use cold compresses to reduce swelling around the eye area.
Eye do
Many men have opened their eyes to eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty and are realizing that treating under-eye bags, puffy eyelids, or droopy lower lids can make a positive difference in appearance. In 2006, ASPS reported that 37,000 men requested eyelid surgeries and ponied up an average of $ 3,000. The procedure involves creating carefully hidden incisions, which allow adjustment of the surrounding tissue through removing excess skin, redistributing fat, or tightening muscles and tissue. The result should be eyes that appear wider, more alert and youthful, rejuvenating the appearance and shaving years off the face.
Be prepared to miss about ten days of work, although puffiness around the eyes may persist for a few months after the surgery. For symptoms like bruising, irritation or dry eyes, try cold compresses and a gentle, hydrating eye cream to relieve discomfort. Also, keep eye drops on hand to relieve dryness.
Love the lipo
For many men, liposuction is becoming a popular surgical procedure: approximately 35,000 liposuction surgeries were performed on men in 2006. Costing anywhere from $ 3,000 – $ 7,500 per treatment, this procedure is costly for men because men’s adipose fat tissue is different than women’s; it’s tough, fibrous, and difficult to remove. In addition, men frequently request liposuction in naturally fibrous areas, such as the chest, love handles or abdomen. During the procedure, an incision is made and a medicinal saline solution injected in the desired area. Then, suction is used to remove unwanted fat and the treated area reshaped.
Patients may return to normal activities after one or two weeks, although numbness, swelling, pain, and bruising may persist for three months and optimal results of the surgery will not be seen for approximately three months. Patients are advised to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise in order to maintain newly contoured figures.
A hair affair
Men sometimes have trouble keeping their hair where they want it. No wonder 20,000 men asked for hair transplant surgeries in 2006. Depending on the extent of hair loss and how many grafts are required, this procedure can cost anywhere from $ 4,000 to $ 36,000, making it one of the most costly of all elective surgeries. The relatively new technique involves surgically removing hair follicles from other areas of the body and implanting them into dead hair follicles with small bore needles or blades. Hair transplants take place over a number of sessions and surgeons must carefully transplant the hair follicles at precise angles to imitate natural hair growth. The transplanted hair falls out within several weeks when new hair growth begins.
Wounds heal in seven to ten days and fortunately, the side effects are minor: mild pain, swelling, and the formation of scabs. Many men may be able to return to work the next day, however; its crucial to keep the new hair drafts moist to diminish the amount of crusting and encourage rapid hair growth. Patients are permitted to gently wash their hair two days post-surgery.
From nose reshaping to liposuction, men are relying on cosmetic surgery more than ever before to increase their sense of well-being and quality of life. Before embarking on any surgery, consider all options, study risks and rewards of each procedure and be prepared for significant recovery time.

LED Light Therapy Treats Aging and More
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=569
Let the light shine: LED light, that is! LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, use near-infrared light which penetrates and is absorbed by skin. While lasers produce heat, LEDs only produce light, which the skin turns into energy. This light energy then affects the mitochondria, responsible for powering cells. Plus, light allows cells to carry out chemical activities more quickly. Get to know this exciting treatment and what it can do for the skin.
Vitamin B
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=564
Pluck any beauty product off the shelf and chances are that vitamin B plays at least a small role in the list of ingredients. Topical vitamin B and its derivatives are used in anti-aging products to retain moisture and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Niacinamide is used in skin lightening creams to decrease hyperpigmentation. Moisturizers containing niacin and pantothenic acid guarantee that the skin is being hydrated with the most effective ingredients. Many acne treatments use B5 to combat oil and blemishes. According to the British Journal of Dermatology, topical creams with B12 improve eczema and soothe inflammation.
Idebenol and Idebenone
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=563
Used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, depression and stroke, idebenone only recently entered the skin care market with a big, exciting bang; dermatologists and patients alike anticipated its arrival. Idebenol, a similar ingredient, has also enjoyed surging popularity. And it isn’t merely hype: there’s research to suggest both idebenone and idebenol are effective anti-aging ingredients. For one, idebenol and idebenone guard skin against free radical damage. It’s free radicals, or environmental factors, including chemicals, pollutants and cigarette smoke, that damage skin and cause signs of aging, such as wrinkles, dryness and age spots.
Stretch Marks
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=561
Although eliminating stretch marks entirely is time consuming and often, not possible, there are numerous options available to aid in reducing their appearance on the skin. While medical procedures such as laser removal, dermabrasion or chemical peels come closest to eliminating almost all traces of stretch marks, these processes are often quite expensive and, are not suitable for all skin types. For a less expensive, more user friendly option, choose an over-the-counter lotion, cream or gel that contains ingredients known to aid in refining the appearance and texture of stretch marks. A few ingredients to look for are: alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), palmitoyl oligopeptide, glucosamine HCL, shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil and vitamin E.
